Hooker’s “Rising Cards” Challenge

On pages 56-61 of the January 2008 issue of M-U-M, there are articles describing an effect by Dr. Samuel C. Hooker involving cards that rise from a brass houlette.  VP Dan Sclare asks that everyone read the article and attempt to explain how the illusion was accomplished.  Jim Steinmeyer and company have their version.  What’s yours?

Broken Wand:
Gennaro “Jerry” Viglione

Our brother, Jerry Viglione of East Hartford, passed on January 21, 2008, at the age of 93.
Jerry was a member of our Society for over 50 years.  He got a plaque from the Society commemorating this event in October 2006.
Three years ago, we surprised him at one of our monthly meetings with a birthday celebration complete with a cake decorated with the SAM logo.
He would often perform magic shows at the Shriners Hospital up in Springfield.
He was given a Mass of Christian burial at St. Christophers Church in East Hartford on January 26, and he is interred at Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery in Bloomfield.
He was a wonderful man, and he will be sorely missed.
