Dear Compeers,

The purpose of this letter is to provide you with an initial report on the early stages of a very exciting project.

At the 2006 Annual Convention in Louisville, Kentucky, the S.A.M. National Council approved proceeding with a feasibility study to develop the Society of American Magicians Magic Center. That’s right—at last, a formal home for all the programs, history and services that S.A.M. provides.  This will be a place that will be available to all S.A.M. members, and will provide the public with a glimpse of the history of magic and the Society of American Magicians.

First, and foremost—the Society of American Magicians will have NO financial obligation for the Magic Center.  A separate tax-exempt foundation has been created to own and operate the Magic Center and it will be funded with private donations.  No S.A.M. funds will be committed to develop, construct, or operate the Magic Center.

Second, while it is very preliminary, and the final design may be different, lots of exciting ideas are under consideration for the Magic Center. Some of these include:

There is a lot of work to be done to determine if the Magic Center can become a reality, but it is exciting to consider the possibilities. We have developed a website that will allow all S.A.M. members to get the latest information on the Magic Center.  You may access the website at sammagiccenter.com or sammagiccenter.org or sammagiccenter.net.

This is an exciting project and we will keep you updated on the website and in M U M as we make progress on the Magic Center. If you have ideas or suggestions, please send them to me.  My home address, e-mail address and phone number are at the top to this letter.
