Notes and Photos from recent area conventions
Inner Circle of Bizarre Magick Gathering

Compeer Soll Levine filed this report:

The Bizarre Magic Convention was held November 10th to 12th at the Crowne Plaza Hotel (formerly the Radisson) off I-91 in Cromwell Connecticut.&bsp Info about the convention is at www.icbmmagick.com.  Click on the photo gallery and then click on "2005 gallery."

There were lectures, including two excellent ones by Charles Pecor and Losander.  Charles Pecor discussed his experiences in the theater.  Losander discussed levitations with invisible thread and thread loops.  He also discussed a zombie routine and a floating table that he sells.  There was a lecture on cards and another one on marketing.

There were: a close-up show, works in progress, and an evening show.

The convention's main theme was honoring women in magic.  The major honoree of the convention, and recipient of this year’s Lionhart Award, was Diana Enright.  She performed a ribbon routine dressed in a red Chinese silk outfit in the evening show.
Both Kali and Brittany performed in the evening show with snakes and reptiles rather than doves and rabbits.  Kali also used a white rat in her act.
Mary Tomisch did a ring routine.
Marlene did a ventriloquist act with Charles Pecor as the Devil (with a mask on his face and a red robe on his back).
Yona Chock did a cut and restored paper tree and other children's routines while telling stories.
Colleen Mahar juggled with objects that had lights in them.  The act was performed in a darkened room and the lights created delightful patterns. In the evening show, there were a few men who performed.   Kardor did his mentalism act à la Johnny Carson.  It was quite funny.
David Parr did a thread and razor blades from mouth.
Losander did his levitation act including his floating table.  His act is quite elegant.

The weekend was a lot of fun and there were plenty of goodies for those who enjoy the bizarre and for those that do not.

SAMCON 2005 remarks by Dan Sclare
It was a very enjoyable convention.  Simon Lovell was there, and Rocco who I saw at one of the first NEMCONs I think I ever went to, gave a very interesting lecture.  Dave Cresey was throwing out a lot of cool stuff to the audience as he was talking about it.  He was throwing different D’Lites out, but unfortunately he wasn’t sending much stuff into Right Field where I was sitting.  Michael Ammar was there.  Very nice, very personable--nice lecture, evening show.  To be a bit of a critic: I really like the stuff Rocco did, but it doesn’t seem like it flows together...but he does fantastic stuff.  This is the third one I’ve been to, and they’re very enjoyable.
It’s the Mad Ferret himself, Simon Lovell.
Danny Alan, as sculpted in balloons by the incredibly talented Royal Sorell.
